The Athens Foundation is a community foundation conceived and supported by Athenians. In 1980 eight civic-spirited Athens women gave fifty dollars each to launch the Athens Foundation. The Foundation’s endowment currently stands at over three million dollars, and the community philanthropy has granted over one million dollars to 140 Athens area groups having a agreat impact on the quality of life in Athens County.
